My Review
All right, I'm going to be completely honest and tell you guys that I have never read Jane Eyre before. I know, I know, it's such a bookish crime! But, Lauren Winder Farnsworth's Keeping Kate really makes me want to read it, so maybe I'll read it soon!
On to the book! first of all, I want to point out the amazing setting. Thornfield was so beautiful!
I found Keeping Kate to be such a fun and engaging read. Kate was a fantastic character, one that I found to be so realistic, caring, and unselfish. I loved how, even though she had been through so much grief and unloving environments, she was still so full of love! It was beautiful to see her live her faith out loud to the fullest, always willing to speak up about her religion no matter what the circumstances! Her emotions were so strong and palpable, and I felt every single one of them as I read the book. It made me feel so invested in the story and the outcome.
Tyler. Her irritable employer, who may not have been so irritable after all! It's easy to see why she fell for him, after all the wonderfully witty banter and everything. Their love for each other was so clear and strong, it really was a beautiful love story. Then, bam! Something huge happens (I'm not going to tell you what, but just know that it's huge), and then there is a complete lack of communication which results in Kate and Tyler being separated (big time). I'm not going to lie, I was kind of devastated!
Something that I really loved about this story was the timeline. It wasn't rushed, in fact it took place over a few years, and I really had time to get to know the characters well. I loved each part of the book. After she left Thornfield, I wasn't sure what was going to happen, but everything happened in a way that was reasonable, humorous at times, and completely brilliant!
This book made me feel so many emotions, in fact, I tweeted quite a few times while reading this book (which I normally don't do unless I really feel compelled to), because of how strongly I was feeling emotions. I felt how strong her love was for tyler, and how much she missed him and still loved him, how her feelings for Jonathon just didn't measure up but she felt it was the only thing to do and that she would come to love him. I knew what I wanted to happen for these characters, but until the end, I had no idea if things were going to work out right! It was fantastic, I don't know when the last time was that I was that worried about the end of a book!
Needless to say, Keeping Kate is definitely a page turner, with beautifully lived faith, emotional emotions, fantastic settings, entertaining banter, worrisome problems, real life family reality issues, and a beautiful love story. This book makes the reader realize how important communication is, and fighting for the one you love.
Trust me, Keeping Kate is a debut that you do not want to miss!
I received this book in exchange of an honest review. This in no way effected my opinions. All thoughts and opinions are solely my own.
