After A Fashion by Jen Turano

After a Fashion

My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Goodreads Summary
Miss Harriet Peabody dreams of the day she can open up a shop selling refashioned gowns to independent working women like herself. Unfortunately, when an errand for her millinery shop job goes sadly awry due to a difficult customer, she finds herself out of an income.

Mr. Oliver Addleshaw is on the verge of his biggest business deal yet when he learns his potential partner prefers to deal with men who are settled down and wed. When Oliver witnesses his ex not-quite-fiance cause the hapless Harriet to lose her job, he tries to make it up to her by enlisting her help in making a good impression on his business partner.

Harriet quickly finds her love of fashion can't make her fashionable. She'll never truly fit into Oliver's world, but just as she's ready to call off the fake relationship, fancy dinners, and elegant balls, a threat from her past forces both Oliver and Harriet to discover that love can come in the most surprising packages.

"Incorporating a bit of mayhem, a modicum of charm, and a dash of skullduggery into Harriet and Oliver's love story, Turano creates an engaging tale with a delightfully unexpected twist at the end." -Publishers Weekly

My Review
Jen Turano’s writing has always been able to make me laugh, but I must say that After A Fashion REALLY made me laugh! When you combine When you combine a hatgirl/designer, a rude customer, a rich possibly nice man who is very confusing;), two fantastic and funny best friends, a dishonest aunt, a fake relationship, perceptions, and Harriet’s past and future - well, let’s just say you are in for quite the entertaining ride! I promise that if you read After A Fashion you will laugh...a lot! And possibly giggle! And maybe swoon?!

I loved Harriet and Oliver! Harriet was full of sass and wit, she wasn’t afraid to stand up for herself and she could definitely hold her own! I appreciated her character and her strong morals. She was perfect for bringing out Oliver’s hidden true self! Which brings me to Oliver and his “proposition,” of Harriet being his fake fiance. Trust me, you won’t want it to be fake, and I rooted for them the whole time! I almost lost all hope in Oliver once, though - fair warning. Maybe it was all a misunderstanding, but either way, he made up for it!

I loved their relationship together. She really brought out the best in him, and together I felt like they could be unstoppable! There was so much fire and wit thrown between them - it was fantastic and I loved every minute of it!

Ms. Turano also wrote some phenomenal secondary characters that leapt right off the page along with Harriet and Oliver! Harriet’s friends had me bursting with laughter that could not be reigned in, and this book would not be the same without Oliver’s grandfather and butler, and the lady who comes in to help Harriet (I can’t give too much away here)!

Harriet had a very intriguing life. Living with her aunt caused her many trials, but she is strong in her faith and trust in God, which shone through in so many aspects of her life. Harriet and Oliver go on quite the faith journey in this book as Oliver learns what is really important and together they attempt to overcome their perceptions.

There were a few times when I wondered how everything was going to come together, and I must say that I was extremely thrilled with the wonderful turns and twists that this book took! The ending could not have been more perfect! If you need a good laugh and some new friends be sure to pick up After A Fashion - I think it’s just what you need!

I received a free copy of this book in exchange of an honest review. This in no way affected my opinion, and all thoughts and opinions are solely my own.
