Sabotaged by Dani Pettrey

My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Goodreads Summary
Growing up, goody-two-shoes Kirra Jacobs and troublemaker Reef McKenna were always at odds. Now paired together on Yancey's search-and-rescue canine unit, they begin to put aside old arguments as they come to see each other in a different light. Then a call comes in from the Iditarod that will push them to their limits.

Kirra's uncle, a musher in the race, has disappeared. Kirra and Reef quickly track the man, but what they discover is harrowing. Frank's daughter has been kidnapped. In order to save her, the man must use his knowledge as a mechanical engineer to do the kidnapper's bidding or she will die. Kirra and Reef, along with the entire McKenna family, are thrown into a race to stop a shadowy villain who is not only threatening a girl's life, but appears willing to unleash one of the largest disasters Alaska has ever seen.

My Review
I had been wanting to read Dani Pettrey’s Alaskan Courage series for a while, but I hadn’t gotten around to it yet. After reading Sabotaged, book 5, this series quickly moved way up on my TBR list! Sabotaged gripped me from the very first sentence, and didn’t ease its grasp until well after I had finished the book. Even months from now, these characters will stick close to my heart!

First things first - setting. I found the setting of Alaska very interesting - there was just so much going for it. I enjoyed learning about the Iditarod, and the SAR (search and rescue) units that follow it so closely. The whole process was interesting to read about, and I learned so much without it feeling, even remotely, like school (which is a great bonus from reading well written novels)!

The characters were all so realistic, relatable, and inspiring. I loved reading about Reef and Kirra. They had history together, as they had known each other since Kindergarten, and I loved watching their perceptions about each other change and grow into something pure and true. They worked so well together, and showed beautiful support for each other as they learned to trust again and accept help. I appreciated that they weren’t perfect, that Reef wasn’t afraid to show his feelings, and Kirra was willing to try letting Reef be the support that God wanted him to be to her. Their faith was inspiring, beautiful, strong, and true. Through past experiences and their present struggles they held strong to that faith and trusted when they most needed to!

Though I haven’t read the first four books of this series (yet), I did appreciate that the characters from the previous books are seen throughout this one, and I enjoyed that there were sections written form their perspectives too. All of the perspective changes flowed seamlessly, and opened up whole new alleys of learning about the mystery and discovered information!

The mystery in this novel was intriguing and impeccable. I love a good mystery, and this one was no different! I loved it all, from the variety of suspects and motives, the heart pounding action, the clues, the guessing, the questioning, and the idea connecting. The teamwork was exceptional, and I loved how they were all so willing to help. I was beginning to wonder toward the end if everything was going to come together before the last page, but I was not disappointed and the ending was not rushed in any way!

If you want a mystery, great characters, suspense, swoon worthy romance, heart pounding action, faith, and much more, you need to pick up this book! Sabotaged is easily my favorite inspirational romantic suspense novel, and I know you won’t be disappointed if you give it a chance! I’m only sorry that I didn’t pick up this series sooner, and I can’t wait to read the first four ASAP!

I received a free copy of this book in exchange of an honest review. This in no way affected my opinion, and all thoughts and opinions are solely my own.
